It is still fresh for me that to reminisce the amazing experience with my love ones for my first time riding at Zip line.. So here is the part two of her blog post to share for you all.
Mabuhay! Great to be back! Time to continue what we have started, so let’s proceed to Kapatagan Camp Sabros on our 2nd day adventure. Nestled in the mountains, a very cold weather since it is situated 3,900 feet (around 1,200 meters) above sea level is Camp Sabros, a mountain eco-adventure spot that has been featured on national outdoor and adventure show, Sports Unlimited, and noted for having two of the country’s longest and craziest zip lines : 380 meters and 400 meters. Camp Sabros is located at Kapatagan, Davao del Sur. Kapatagan is the side of Mt. Apo nearest to Davao City and if you are lucky enough, you can also get the chance to have an amazing panoramic view of the peak of Mount Apo during a clear day. Most of those who climb the mountain take the trek originating in Kidapawan City, a few couple of hours from Davao City. The camp is managed by brothers Edwin and Pando Sacdalan and was launched last December 25, 2007.
We started our trip at 8 in the morning, rode a bus for 45 minutes to 1 hour from Downtown Davao to the junction of the National Highway and the road to Kapatagan. For 45 minutes to 1 hour we rode a motorcycle on our way up to the National Highway uphill on the Kapatagan road to the Mt. Apo National Park Checkpoint. From the check point we start hiking uphill to Camp Sabros. Vehicles may be brought all the way up to Camp Sabros, but we opted that out. Trekking to the Camp is laborious but fun. It affords you ample time to enjoy the marvelous scenery on the way up. Pine trees dominate the landscape of Camp Sabros, giving it a Baguio-atmosphere feel. It’s a good exercise, too! The trail we walked was a steep dirt track so that when we finally reached the entrance arch to the camp, we were panting and sweating. But it was all worth it because the moment we stepped on the camp’s wide grounds, we knew that we were just inches from our great Adventure!
There are two zip lines in the camp, a 380 meters and 400 meters zip lines in the camp (the only difference is the speed going down). It cost P150 per ride. They also offer an adventure package worth P500 which includes zip line rides, cable car and rappelling. The moment we were waiting had come, my dear Arjay choose to glide by two’s. Riding their shortest 380 zip line needs a great courage especially if you have fear of heights. Finally, we are in a flying position and the staff released us. At a speed of maybe 40 kph and at a height of 200 feet above the ground, holding hands we soared like an eagle. It was frightening at first but I started to enjoy the experience in no time, we were amazed with the unbelievable site around us. That first attempt lasted for 37 seconds and that we will definitely won’t forget it. The return ride is via cable, lift which lasted for 5 minutes and still savors the scenic view and the mountain cool breeze. After our zip line adventure we had our snacks at the deli, then had a little fun taking pictures with their superman and Indian statues. You may bring your own food & drinks and have a picnic at Camp Sabros. No entrance fees, no corkage fees. For those who do not wish to bring packed foods, the deli at Camp Sabros serves affordable foods which range from P20.00 to less than a hundred per order. The mini store on the other hand, sells junk foods and soft drinks.
We left the camp at around 4.30 p.m., trekked back to the checkpoint area and then headed back to Davao City. We were tired but very much delighted of the exciting and thrilling experience we had that we’d want to do it over and over again.
