Lanzones Festival at Camiguin Island!

One of my very interest provinces that I wished to visit is this Island of Camiguin.

Camiguin Islands is a small island in Northern Mindanao, Philippines. It is a holiday island. There are lots of very cool places in this island. White sands beaches, hot/cold springs, sunken cemetery and a lot of beautiful places. And during third week of October this island is celebrating the Lanzones Festival, which what makes the special for this event is the grand parade of Lanzones fruit with street dancing and beauty pageants.

Lanzones (Lansium domesticum Corr.) is a tropical fruit from they are an exceedingly sweet and slightly sour taste. But beware, one must be careful not to bite into the bitter seed! Export potential is limited because the fruit perishes easily after ripening and the skin exudes milky latex which is messy to the hands and lips. But they said that the sweetest Lanzones only can found in the island of Camiguin. Note the swarm of ants partaking of the sugary nectar. That’s how sweet this fruit is!

Lanzones Fruit

Most of the people of Camiguin considered their most income came from Lanzones, and now they are exporting the fruit to keep their annual festival going.

I’m sure that every year the celebration will be come more and more extravagant and full of exciting. So that’s why Island of Camiguin was already in my To travel list someday.

How to get there:

From Cagayan de Oro Airport, take a taxi and proceed to the bus terminal located at Agora for Balingoan, which is approximately 88kms. from Cagayan de Oro. In Balingoan, take a ferry boat bound for Camiguin Island. The traveler enters Benoni Wharf of Mahinog or Guinsiliban which is 17 kms. from the Capital town of Mambajao.
